CM Thackeray visits Haffkine Institute amid rising covid cases in state

Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday visited the Haffkine Institute. The state government is making efforts to speed up the corona vaccination campaign. Against this backdrop, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray visited the Haffkine Institute.

Haffkine needs to be re-energized. If there is a need to increase their capacity, then the state government will fully support them, said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The need for more rapid vaccination in the state is being expressed. Against this backdrop, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had gone to the Haffkine Institute to find a solution.

A few days back, in a televised conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Thackeray had sought approval for starting more vaccination centres to expedite inoculation in the state and demanded that Mumbai-based Haffkine Institute be allowed to produce the COVID-19 vaccine.

The PM promptly said institutes in all states which can produce the vaccine will be encouraged, according to the statement.

The CM called for transferring vaccine technology to the Haffkine Bio-Pharmaceutical Corporation Limited under the Centre''s Mission COVID Suraksha following the guidance of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The Haffkine Institute can produce 126 million vaccines if the permission is granted, he added.
