COVID-19: BMC to set up 3 Jumbo Covid hospitals; emphasis on enhancing ICU facilities

Maharashtra continues to report highest number of covid cases. A total of 9,989 new positive cases and 58 deaths were reported in Mumbai on Sunday. The number of covid cases in the city has been increasing rapidly over the last few days. Therefore, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation plans to setting up medical facilities.

BMChas informed that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray that it intends to set up 3 Jumbo Covid Hospitals in the city in the next 5 to 6 weeks. Each of these hospitals will have 2,000 beds. In addition, there will be 200 ICUs and 70% oxygen beds. At present, around 9,000 corona patients are being registered in Mumbai every day.

Many of the cases that are being reported in the city are mostly asymptomatic. Due to which many patients are not able to receive timely treatment. Patients are coming to hospitals when their condition deteriorates and found that they have tested covid positive.

Keeping this in mind, BMC has increased the number of ICU beds in the city's hospitals to 325. As a result, the total number of ICU beds has reached 2,466.

At present, there are 19,151 ICU DCHC / DCH beds in 141 hospitals in the city. Of these, 3,777 beds are currently vacant. In next 7 days, NMC is going to increase the number of DCHC / DCH beds to 1,100. It will have 125 ICU beds. All labs in the city have been instructed to report corona tests within 24 hours.
