COVID-19 Lockdown: There is no need for lockdown in Mumbai right now, says BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal

Maharashtra has been witnessing rise in covid cases over the last few days. The state reported 8,744 new COVID-19 cases, 9,068 recoveries, and 22 deaths in the last 24 hours, the State Health Department informed on Monday.

Vidarbha has the highest positivity rate of corona cases. The number of patients is also increasing in cities like Mumbai and Pune. Against this backdrop, there was talk of a possible lockdown in Mumbai again. But Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has said that there is no need to impose lockdown in Mumbai at present. Chahal's statement has definitely brought relief to Mumbaikars.

"There is no need to impose a direct lockdown in Mumbai at present. But Mumbaikars should take the rules of COVID very seriously. If they are not followed, strict restrictions will be imposed in the future," Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal warned. He aid while talking to the media in Mumbai.

Amid the rise in COVID-19 cases, Thane Municipal Corporation on Tuesday imposed a lockdown at 16 hotspot areas from today till March 31.
