COVID-19 Vaccination: BMC seeks permission for vaccine trial on children from Centre

A vaccination drive is underway to curb the spread of covid in Mumbai. Citizens above 18 years of age are being vaccinated under this drive. A third wave of corona is expected, with young children at greater risk. In that connection, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has considered to vaccinate children in the age group of 12 to 18 years. Against this background, a 'trial' of vaccination will be conducted. For this, the municipality has prepared the entire necessary system. A letter has also sent to the central government for permission in this regard.

Additional Commissioner Suresh Kakani also informed that the proposal has not been approved yet. Experts have predicted a third wave of corona. It is said that children are more at risk.
Therefore, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is trying to vaccinate children. Vaccination has been started in Mumbai from January 16. About 39 lakh 47 thousand 422 doses have been given so far. However, the pace of vaccination has slowed down due to the current shortage of vaccines. To speed up vaccination, the municipality has also set up a system where more than one lakh people can be vaccinated daily.

Vaccination is necessary to prevent corona. The state and municipality are making efforts to provide adequate vaccines for this purpose. In the third wave, children between the ages of 12 and 18 will be vaccinated. The trial will be held at KEM, Nair Hospital. In particular, the corporation is on the verge of reaching the milestone of one lakh vaccinations a day.
At present about one lakh doses of vaccine are also available. Therefore, the corporation will complete the vaccination of Mumbaikars soon, said Kakani.

In Mumbai, for the 17th consecutive day, new infections remained below the 1,000 level, decreasing from 749 on Saturday to 695 on Sunday, and the city tally rose to 715,660. Deaths increased from 18 a day earlier to 19, sending the total fatalities in the country's commercial capital to 15,183, due to reconciliation of data.
