Cyclone Tauktae:1 woman killed, 1 seriously injured due to cyclone in Uran

Nita Naik (60) was killed on the spot when the wall of Ram temple in Uran suddenly collapsed while she was buying flowers. Another woman, Sunandabai Gharat, 55, a vegetable seller in Nagaon, was critically injured. The injured woman has been shifted to a hospital in Vashi for treatment. Uran woman has become the first victim of cyclone Tauktae in Raigad district.

Nita Naik was a resident of Aveda-Kegaon. She used to support her family by selling flowers at home. She used to go to the market every day to buy flowers for her business. At around 9.15 am on Monday, she went to buy flowers near Ram Mandir in Uran, where renovation work is underway. While she was buying flowers suddenly a cement block and a brick wall on the first floor of the temple suddenly collapsed, killing Nita Naik. According to the Uran police, the woman, Sunandabai Gharat, who was selling vegetables near the Ram Mandir, was also seriously injured.

Meanwhile, many houses in a coastal village in Uran area have been damaged due to the cyclone. In some places, houses have been damaged due to falling trees. Power lines and poles have collapsed. As a result, 32 villages in Uran area does not have electricity since Sunday night.
