Devendra Fadnavis: Bhandara fire incident tragic & painful, demand high level probe

Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis has expressed grief over the death of ten children in a fire that broke out at the neonatal care unit of Bhandara District Hospital. Devendra Fadnavis also said that there should be a high-level inquiry into the deaths of 10 newborns in the ICU in progressive Maharashtra, adding that there should be a high-level inquiry and strict action should be taken against the culprits.

Fire incident at the Bhandara District Hospital, where about 10 children lost lives is very painful & disturbing. My deep condolences to the families who suffered such irreparable loss. This incident should be properly investigated & strict action be taken against the culprits, tweeted Fadnavis.

At the same time, this is a black event in the history of Maharashtra. Why was the fire audit not done? This should be investigated. We don't want to politicize this, but the way the claims are being made doesn't make sense and they are wrong. Devendra Fadnavis also demanded Rs 10 lakh for the relatives of the deceased.

In addition, a proposal for fire audit of Bhandara District General Hospital was sent to the Director by the hospital administration through the Deputy Director of Health on 12 May 2020, but no one paid attention to it. Devendra Fadnavis has also said that all the officials who have committed this negligence should be charged with murder.

As many as 10 infants died in a fire that broke out at Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of Bhandara District General Hospital at 2 am on Saturday.
