Maharashtra government has decided to hike autorickshaw and taxi fares in the Mumbai metropolitan area by Rs 3 in the wake of the Corona period and subsequent rising in fuel prices. Transport Minister Anil Parab said in a press conference that the fare hike will be effective from March 1. He also clarified that rickshaw and taxi fares were increased after six years and "it was long overdue".

Parab has informed about the approval by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority in price rise saying the minimum fare for autorickshaws and taxis will be Rs 21 and Rs 25 respectively.

The decision to increase rickshaw and taxi fares was taken at a meeting of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority. The proposal was sent to the state government for approval.

After the hike, the minimum fare over a distance of 1.5 km for taxis will increase from Rs 22 to Rs 25 and the three-wheelers will witness a rise from Rs 18 to Rs 21.

The last fare hike was implemented on June 1, 2015.
