Maharashtra Gram Panchayat Election: Shiv Sena takes lead in 278 seats, BJP in 261

The counting of votes is underway for the Maharashtra Gram Panchayat Election 2021. The results of the 12,711 Gram Panchayat elections in 34 districts of the state will be released today. 

As of 10:30 am, Shiv Sena is leading in 323 seats, while the BJP is leading in 261 seats, the NCP in 218 seats and the Congress in 136 seats. Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) was ahead in five seats.

As per latest updates, Shiv Sena was surging ahead in 278 seats, BJP was ahead in 257. As the voted were being counted for the Maharashtra Gram Panchayat polls, the latest trends available indicated that NCP was leading in 218 seats, while the Congress was ahead in 124.
 

There are 27,920 gram panchayats in Maharashtra. The State Election Commission has announced that voting for 162 gram panchayats in six talukas of Gadchiroli, a Naxal hotbed, will be conducted on January 20.

The elections to 12,711 gram panchayats spread across 34 districts in Maharashtra saw on average 79 percent voting on Friday, State Election Commissioner UPS Madan said.
