Maharashtra: Hemant Nagrale takes additional charge as DGP of state

After Subodh Kumar Jaiswal has been deputed at the Centre, Maharashtra will get a new Director General of Police in the New Year. Hemant Nagarale has been given the additional charge of the post of Maharashtra State Director General of Police. He is currently the DG of Legal and Technical Department. He will assume his additional duties at 3.30pm today.

After Jaiswal’s appointment, there was uncertainty on entrusting charge as it will take more than a week to appoint a regular DGP. Sanjay Pande is senior most DG and Rajendra Singh is additional DG (law & order) but they were not named. Nagrale, who retires in October 2022, will now lead the state police.

Who was in the race for the post of Director General of Police?

1. Bipin Bihari - 1987 Batch IPS Officer, Head of Housing Department
2. Hemant Nagarale - 1987 Batch IPS Officer, currently in charge of Legal and Technical Department.
3. Sanjay Pandey is a 1986 batch IPS officer and is currently the Head of Home Guard.
4. Rashmi Shukla is a 1988 batch IPS Officer, Head of Civil Rights.
