Maharashtra reported 51,751 new COVID-19 cases and 258 deaths in the last 24 hours, the state health administration said on Monday.

The coronavirus cases in the state continue to rise and it has put a lot of pressure on the health system. Meanwhile, it is now clear that there will be a statewide lockdown in Maharashtra to curb the spread of covid. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will take a major decision to impose lockdown in the state and its its guidelines will be announced today, said Maharashtra Minister Aslam Shaikh.

Informing about the lockdown, Aslam Sheikh said, "We want to break the chain of corona. We want to take a decision with the people, taking their advice. We want to implement a good SOP for that. I think the rules are likely to be announced today."

Meanwhile, the situation in Maharashtra is still under control, Shaikh said.

Private hospitals in state are having a waiting list.However, government hospitals still have beds and oxygen beds at the Covid Center, said Aslam Shaikh. Some of the COVID19 Task Force in the meeting were of view that the lockdown must be for two weeks, some were in favour of three weeks but at least 8 days lockdown to be imposed and lockdown is a must.If a lockdown is imposed, then the result must come," he added.
