Maratha Reservation: Thackeray govt to give 10% EWS reservation for Maratha students

The Supreme Court recently declared a Maharashtra law which provides reservation benefits to the Maratha community, taking the quota limit in the State in excess of 50%, as unconstitutional.

Once again this issue has come under discussion. However, it is learned that the Maharashtra  government has now taken an important decision to provide relief to the Maratha community. The Maratha community will now benefit from the 10 per cent reservation for the economically weaker sections in education and government jobs.

There was anger against the court order from the Maratha community in the state. After this, Sambhaji Raje took the initiative and started his statewide tour. On the issue of Maratha reservation, Sambhaji Raje recently met NCP chief Sharad Pawar, MNS president Raj Thackeray and Prakash Ambedkar of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi.

The BJP is also trying to surround the Thackeray government on this issue. The Maratha community is also dissatisfied with the government and there were also calls for reservations from the EWS category. The decision has finally been taken by the state government.

The state government has issued an order in this regard. According to the state government, Maratha students and candidates will get 10 per cent Economically Backward Section (EWS) reservation in admissions to educational institutions. This decision will enable Maratha students and candidates in the state to avail 10 per cent EWS reservation. When Maratha reservation was implemented in the state, the Maratha community could not take advantage of 10 percent EWS reservation, as the government had decided. But now that the Maratha reservation has been canceled, the government has decided to give EWS reservation benefit to the Maratha community. It is said that this will bring relief to the Maratha community.
