Mayur Shelkhe, who saved child at Vangani railway station, donates half prize money to child's welfare & education

Ministry of Railways on Tuesday announced an award of Rs 50,000 for pointsman Mayur Shelkhe, who saved the life of a child who lost his balance while walking at platform 2 of Vangani railway station & fell on railway tracks, on 17th April.

After Mayur got to know that he was going to be awarded with a cash prize , without thinking much the man decided to give half the amount of his prize to the child he saved for his welfare & education. 

Shelke said,"I'll give half of the amount, given to me as token of appreciation, for that child's welfare & education. I came to know that his family isn't financially strong. So I decided this."

Mayur Shelkhe saved life of a child who lost his balance while walking at platform 2 of Vangani railway station & fell on railway tracks, while a train was moving in his direction. The incident took place on in Thane district on 17th April. Mayur Shelke’s act of bravery was appreciated even by Railways Minister Piyush Goyal.

The child who had accidentally fell into the tracks while walking at platform 2 of Vangani railway station was accompanied by his blind mother. Railway staff at Central Railway office appreciated and felicitated Shelkhe for saving the life of the child. "The woman (with the child) was visually impaired. She could do nothing. I ran towards the child but also thought that I might be in danger too. Still, I thought I should save him. The woman was very emotional & thanked me a lot. Min Piyush Goyal also called me up," said Mayur Shelkhe.
