In a shocking incident a businessman from Kandivali, suburban in Mumbai has allegedly lost over Rs 32 lakh in an online fraud, police said on Friday.

According to the complaint, the businessman received an email from a Ghana-based medical research company in June which wanted him to procure an organic chemical liquid that claimed to be available in India and offered him a good deal, an official said.

After which the businessman got in touch with the supplier and sent the detailed quotation and samples to the research firm. The research company gave a purchase order of 10 gallons of the liquid however it did not pay any amount in advance for the same, he said.

When the businessman got in touch with the supplier, they demanded Rs 15 lakh from him as advance and was asked for more money over a period of one month, the official said.

After having paid Rs 32.64 lakh and not receiving any product in return, the complainant realised that he had been duped and approached Samta Nagar police station, he said.
