The coronavirus case tally in Dharavi area of Mumbai rose to 2,800 on Thursday with eight new patients coming to light, said a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official.

The area, considered to be Asia's largest slum, has been reporting single-digit rise since more than 25 days now.

Spread over 2.5 square kilometers, the area has a population over 6.5 lakh.

Of 2,676 COVID-19 patients, 2,432 have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals, the BMC official said, adding that there are only 98 active cases at present.

He said the G-north civic ward, that includes areas like Dadar and Mahim along with Dharavi, has reported 7,797 COVID-19 cases so far.

Of these, 2,660 cases were recorded in Dadar and 2,337 in Mahim, the official said.
