Mumbai local train services suspended due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging

Mumbai Local train services between Kurla & CSMT were halted on Wednesday. Central railway CPRO said that water is flowing over tracks between Kurla & Sion stations. The Traffic was stopped at 9.50 am, decision taken as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident. Traffic will resume as soon as water recedes, he said. 

Also due to heavy rains & waterlogging near Chunabhatti railway station, train services on Harbour line between CSMT- Vashi has been suspended from 10.20 am. On Main line due to waterlogging in Sion-Kurla section, services have been suspended from CSMT- Thane from 10.20 am, said Central railway CPRO.

Heavy rainfall lashed Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra on Wednesday with the advance of the monsoon in the state. The city has been receiving rainfall since Tuesday night.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded rainfall in Santacruz at 50.4 mm and in Colaba at 65.4 mm.

"Monsoon has arrived in Mumbai today, normal arrival date is June 10 every year so it has arrived prior to the average arrival date," said Dr Jayanta Sarkar, Deputy Director General (DDG), IMD Mumbai.

Earlier on Monday, IMD warned of heavy rains during four days from June 9 to 12 in all districts in the Konkan, including the Mumbai metropolitan areas.
