The nation went under lockdown in the year 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. While the lockdown impacted the economy, destroyed livelihood of many people; however it also helped to reduce the number of TB patients in Mumbai city. Mumbai is one of the worst covid affected cities in Maharashtra state.

Mumbai has seen a 30 per cent decline in the number of Tuberculosis (TB) patients in 2020. In 2019, a total of 60,597 TB patients were found in Mumbai. In the year 2020, it has decreased to 43,464 patients, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Apart from this, only 241 TB patients have been reported infected with Covid.

The Center has also announced awards for a total of three divisions in Mumbai for controlling TB. The Parel area has seen a 40 per cent decline in TB patients in the last five years. Against this backdrop, the Center has announced a silver medal for controlling TB in Parel.

Ghatkopar, Prabhadevi and Grant Road divisions have been awarded bronze medals. India has set a target of eradicating TB by 2025.

Meanwhile, it was initially feared that the covid would have a major impact on TB patients and also increase the number of TB patients. But in reality, the statistics show that the situation is under control. In the year 2020, out of a total of 13,155 TB patients in Mumbai, only 241 patients were found to be corona positive. So this is also a good thing for Mumbai. In the last three months, there have been no cases of covid. In the year 2021, i.e. in the last two months, 41 out of 1956 TB patients have tested positive for corona.
