Mumbai Police arrests Arnab Goswami: 'Behave like an accused', magistrate reprimands Arnab for reckless behaviour

The Alibaug Court Chief Judicial Magistrate on Wednesday evening told Republic TV Managing Director and Editor in Chief Arnab Goswami to maintain decorum, “behave like an accused” and not interrupt the court proceedings.

After a marathon hearing, Alibaug Court Chief Judicial Magistrate Sunaina S. Pingle declined the police plea for 14-day police custody and sent Goswami to judicial custody till November 18.

Akshata Naik's advocate Vilas Naik said, “Goswami attempted to climb the dais in front of the magistrate when she asked to stand beyond the plastic partition (put up for Covid prevention) in order to see his injury marks more clearly.”

Later, when Goswani's lawyer was presenting the case, he interrupted again by waving his hand and raising voice to show the injury marks to the magistrate.

“The magistrate then warned Goswami and told him to maintain decorum,” said Naik. Goswami agaim raised his voice when the medical officer was being questioned by the magistrate.

The magistrate Pingale warned him that she would be compelled to ask him to leave the courtroom and she would listen only to his lawyer. Thereafter, Goswami became silent.

The magistrate also reprimanded Goswami’s wife Samyabrata for voice-recording the court proceedings.
