In a shocking incident, a Western Railway staff suffered major injury in her spine after she fell off a moving local train in Mumbai while he was chasing a thief.

The incident took place on Wednesday, July 7. The police arrested the accused, identified as 25-year-old Rahul Butiya, within 12 hours of the incident.

Snehal Hulke (30), who works as a junior engineer with Western Railway, got in a Churchgate-bound train from Virar. Hulke was traveling in the second-class ladies compartment. When the train stopped at Dadar station platform no 4, the accused entered the ladies coach with an intention to rob mobile phone.

"Hulke had her back to him and was checking her phone. Just as the train started to move, the man snatched her phone and jumped out of the coach," senior inspector Mehboob Inamdar said.
Hulke chased him, but by the time the train had started moving at pace. During the chase, she fell on the platform, landing on her back.

She was then taken to Jagjivan Ram Hospital. CCTV footage of Dadar station helped the cop to nab the accused. Butiya was arrested from Bhawani Shankar Road and was charged under Section 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code.
