Mumbai: Sex workers in Kamathipura struggle to make ends meet amid lockdown

Sex workers in Kamathipura, Mumbai are facing difficulties in meeting day-to-day needs of themselves & their families amid the 21 day Coronavirus Lockdown announced by the Indian government. One of the workers says, "We are not getting any ration, we only get to eat what is given to us by NGOs".

Kamathipura in South Mumbai is one of the biggest red-light areas of the country. Because of the COVID-19 lockdown, there are no customers, and it is difficult for them to make ends meet. Their savings are very low and they depend on daily earnings.

Thirty-three new coronavirus positive cases reported in Maharashtra today —19 in Pimpri-Chinchwad, 11 in Mumbai, one each in Ahmednagar, Satara and Vasai. Total number of positive cases in the state now stands at 781.
