Parambir Singh Letter Bomb: Julio Ribeiro says he won't investigate the case

Former Director General of Police Julio Ribeiro has categorically refused to investigate Parambir Singh's letter bomb, alleging that the politics surrounding Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's suicide was aimed at overthrowing the state government.

NCP president Sharad Pawar had said that the allegations leveled against Anil Deshmukh by Parambir Singh should be investigated by an official like Julio Ribeiro.

Ribeiro has said he is not interested. Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh in his sensational letter has accused Home Minister Anil Deshmukh of corruption.

In his eight-page letter, Singh claimed that Deshmukh had allegedly asked Sachin Vaze, arrested by the NIA over his role in placing an explosive-loaded SUV near Mukesh Ambani's residence last month, to collect Rs 100 crore from bars, restaurants and other establishments in Mumbai.

After this, the BJP took up the matter and demanded an inquiry into the resignation of Anil Deshmukh.

Amid a huge political storm, Sharad Pawar told reporters that there should be a detailed investigation and suggested Mr Ribeiro's name. "Julio Riberio's credibility is such that no one can interfere or influence his investigation," Mr Pawar said.

"I would not like to touch this kind of murky situation," Mr Ribeiro said. Ribeiro replied that he is not interested. I have not been contacted by the government.

Ribeiro has rejected Pawar's offer, saying he would not be available even if he was approached for an inquiry into the matter. I am now 92 years old. No one at this age will be able to investigate such a case. If Maharashtra's Home Minister is questioned, it should be done by Sharad Pawar as the head of the ruling party, Ribeiro said.

Ribeiro also questioned why a retired police officer was being asked to investigate the matter.
