Pune: Spitting in public places and streets to attract Rs 1,000 fine

While the number of coronavirus cases in Pune continues to rise, there is still no sign of seriousness among the citizens. The number of people consuming and spitting gutkha and tobacco on the streets is also increasing. Therefore, the Pune municipal corporation has now decided to intensify the campaign against spitting. 

As cases of COVID-19 people continue to rise in the city, PMC is trying to take all possible measures to curb the spread of the infection. Since the virus can be transmitted through nasal or spit droplets of an affected individual, stricter action against spitting was naturally in order.

Those who spit on the streets or in public places will now be fined Rs 1,000. Earlier, a fine of Rs 100 was being levied. Strict action is being taken by the field offices of the municipality for spitting, littering and littering in public places. It has been observed that despite strict action, citizens continue to spit on the streets.

Complaints are also being made by the citizens in this regard. Therefore, the amount of fine has now been increased to one thousand rupees. The letter was sent to the municipality by Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao. 

Earlier, a fine of Rs 100 was levied for not wearing a mask in a public place. From now on, a fine of Rs 500 will be levied.

Senior Health Inspectors and Health Inspectors of 15 ward offices of the city have been given the authority to take action against violators.
