Rajesh Tope: Maha govt directs officials to monitor Delta Plus variant cases closely

A total of 40 cases of Delta Plus variant of COVID-19 coronavirus has been detected in the country, government sources informed on Wednesday, adding that most of the infections were from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. Sources said that the Delta Plus variant is still a "variant of interest".

Based on the recent findings of INSACOG, the Union Health Ministry has alerted and advised Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh regarding the Delta Plus variant of COVID-19.

The Delta Plus variant observed sporadically have been identified so far and no significant increase in prevalence. These States have been advised for strengthening surveillance, public health measures by the Centre. 

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope regarding the variant said, "I have directed officials that the Delta Plus variant cases should be monitored closely. Information about these cases should be collected & recorded for study. We are taking 100 samples from every district."
