Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam is likely to be suspended from the party "for anti-party activities and breach of discipline".

According to sources,a report has been submitted to Mumbai Congress Committee chief Eknath Gaikwad wanting Nirupam's expulsion.

Sanjay Jha has been recently suspended from Congress party with immediate effect for anti-party activities and breach of discipline," the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee said in a release.

Last month, Jha was dropped as All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson and Abhishek Dutt and Sadhna Bharti were appointed as national media panelists of the party.

After the Pilot episode, AICC's instructions are clear-to take action against those who perform  anti-party activities and breach of discipline.

Sanjay Nirupam has said that he does not think that any of his statements or tweets are part of any anti-party activities. Speaking to the Times of India, Sanjay Nirupam said, "I have been clear from day one that there was no need to form a Mahavikas Aghadi in the state. Even now, Congress has no role in the government, Shiv Sena and NCP are doing all the work together. He alleged that the Congress party has not existed in Mumbai for the last six months and the entire party has been quarantined. Also, in last year's Maharashtra Assembly elections, Nirupam had formed a front against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. He had said that there are two groups in the Congress, one led by Sonia Gandhi and the other by Rahul Gandhi. He also targeted Ahmed Patel, Sonia's political adviser. Nirupam had announced not to campaign in favor of Congress party candidates in the state. At the same time, he was not in favor of forming a government in the alliance of NCP and Shiv Sena. He had recently demanded an inquiry into purchase of properties near Matoshree by CM Uddhav Thackeray, alleging irregularities and under-valuation.
