Heavy rains lashed Mumbai and neighbouring Thane district overnight, causing water-logging at several places and affecting local train services and road traffic movement on Wednesday morning, officials said.

A landslide near Khareghat Parsi Colony was reported at Pedder Road in South Mumbai. The landslide affected flats at ground floor of a building after mud entered from window damaging their property. Residents of the building said that its the same hill that caused landslide and affected Pedder Road earlier.

After the landslide the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) D ward Assistant Municipal Commissioner (AMC) Prashant Gaikwad confirmed and said that as a precautionary measure it has ordered the residents of the old building of the Khareghat Parsi Colony to vacate their houses for time being.

"The building retaining wall comprising of around 10 feet collapsed due to which the mud from the hill is slipping. The flats at ground floor of this building have been largely affected. Also since the said building is old and constructed in 1920's the residents have been alerted," he said.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai is expected to receive moderate rains till September 28. The sky will generally be cloudy with the minimum and maximum temperatures ranging between 26 degrees Celsius and 31 degrees Celsius.
