Uddhav Thackeray slams BJP over protests on OBC quota amid rising COVID cases

Mumbai Police on Saturday detained hundreds of protestors, along with BJP party workers who were gathered at their BJP unit office to start a 'morcha' in front of the Maharashtra Secretariat to demand political reservation of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the local bodies. Meanwhile, in Nagpur, police detained former Maharashtra CM and LoP Devendra Fadnavis during the protest over the OBC reservation.

The second covid wave has slowly started to subside but the threat of third wave still persists. People are gathering in huge numbers for protest but they should keep in mind the covid situation. Their demands are valid we agree but if the government is listening to you, then why to protest?  At present, it is not a sign of leadership to take a large number of people to the streets and fight for the justice and spread the virus, said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray over the protests of BJP.

The Sarathi sub-center was inaugurated in Kolhapur today through video conferencing in the presence of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Minister Hasan Mushrif, Shahu Chhatrapati and Ashok Chavan. On this occasion, the Chief Minister appreciated BJP MP Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati for the restraint shown by the Maratha community during the Corona period. While praising Sambhaji Raje, Uddhav Thackeray targeted BJP leaders without naming them.

"The Corona crisis is not just in Maharashtra, but in the world. But it is not a sign of leadership to take the struggle to the streets, to rally for justice and to spread the virus. A true leader is the one who protects the society around him. Economic reservation, political reservation, job reservation is just like justice. As such, we need a leader who cares about the health of society. Crowding, showing strength and then spreading virus will not do any good. Therefore, the only true leader is the one who knows when to struggle and when to communicate ", said Uddhav Thackeray. The Chief Minister thanked Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati for appealing to the community to remain calm without allowing the community to take to the streets on the issue of Maratha reservation.
