Varsha Gaikwad: Schools for standard 9-12 will not start until the end of Sept

The coronavirus cases in Maharashtra is not showing any signs of downward trend. The cases are increasing day by day, with 17,066 new covid cases on Monday, state's total caseload rose to 10.77 lakh.

Amid the rising covid cases State Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad on Monday said schools in Maharashtra for standard 9-12 will not start until the end of September.

The MHA under the unlock 4.0 guidelines had allowed states to start schools from September 21 for Standard 9-12.

However, the Centre asked the state government's to take decision in their respective states considering the COVID-19 situation. Therefore Maharahstra's education department in a recently held meeting with experts decided to not open the schools.

Gaikwad said that the matter will be discussed in detail at the state cabinet meeting, but authorities are not in favour of starting school by the end of September. She further said, we cannot put students health at risk  and loking at the current situation it would be dangerous to call them to school.
