Vijay Waddetiwar: Decision on starting local train services for all in Mumbai soon

Local services in Mumbai have been closed to the public since March to prevent the spread of corona. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday announced that women will be allowed to travel on suburban trains in Maharashtra.

However, other Mumbaikars are still not allowed to travel by locals. As a result, millions of Mumbaikars are traveling by bus and other means. It has become very difficult for citizens to reach their workplace as local trains are closed.

People have been demanding that local trains shoould be started for all. Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Vadettiwar has given hints regarding this.

The decision will be taken in the next 2-3 days for the general public to travel by local, along with the employees of the essential services, said Vijay Vadettiwar. The state government and the railway administration will soon take a decision on local train travel for all, he added. Therefore, it is expected that Mumbaikars will soon be allowed to travel by local.

Goyal on Tuesday took to Twitter and wrote,"I am happy to announce that Railways will allow women to travel on suburban trains from 21 Oct between 11 am to 3 pm & after 7 pm. We were always ready and with the receipt of letter from Maharashtra Govt today, we have allowed this travel."

This happened after the Maharashtra government requested the Western Railways on 16 October to allow local trains services for women, starting 11 am to 3 pm and from 7 pm till end of services for the day, Thakur added.
