36 Maha districts to have Khelo India centres

All the 36 districts of Maharashtra will have at least one Khelo India Centre (KIC) including badminton in Nagpur.

Maharashtra Sports Minister Sunil Kedar had demanded KIC in every district of the State and met union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi in this regard. His efforts bore fruits and the Central Government has agreed in principle for the centres by promising a financial assistance of Rs3.6crore,informs District Sports Officer Avinash Pund through a press release. Under Central Government’sinitiative of having 1000 KICs all over the country, Maharashtra will be having 36 KICs in all of its 36 districts, said Kedar. Centre and State must come together to provide the basic infrastructure for budding sportspersons at grass root levels. The upcoming players must get good coaches and proper equipment to train on. This is an important step in realising the dreams of the nation at international events. The State is ready to open as many such centres, the minister added.
