The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked the Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) to investigate a college in Bhiwapur. The college has been accused of misappropriation of funds from the `40 lakh grant given by UGC for the women’s hostel building.

Interestingly, the UGC gave these instructions to the university on February 24. After three months, the university has asked the principal of the concerned college to furnish the details of the account. Many questions are being raised on the intention of the university. It is also a question that why did it take three months for the university to ask for the account in the matter from the college.

When Lokmat Times contacted the concerned department official of the university in this regard, the officer was seen taking the complaint very lightly and also informed that there is a dispute between the college management and the employees. Due to this dispute, a complaint has been made. While the university’s job is only to follow the instructions of the UGC, and not to investigate what is going on inside the college.

The officer has also not clarified what is the reason behind the delay of three months in seeking the accounts from the college. Another surprising fact is that in the letter sent by the university, it has not been clarified in how many days the account needs to be furnished. No committee has been formed to investigate the matter.

Whereas UGC joint secretary Dr R Manoj Kumar has asked the university to investigate the matter. It is also said that after investigation, give your opinion on the allegations to the UGC.

In fact, a person from Bhandara district complained to the UGC that there has been misappropriation of funds in the `40 lakh financial assistance given by UGC for women’s hostel. Taking cognizance of this complaint, Dr Kumar, the registrar of the university was asked by Manoj Kumar to investigate the case on 24 February.

According to a letter sent by the UGC via e-mail, the college had reported an expenditure of `42,17,600 for the construction of the hostel. On this, they were given `40 lakh under the 11th plan of UGC.
