Government trying to suppress protest: MARD

The resident doctors of Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital (GACH), Nagpur, who have stopped work and are protesting under the aegis Maharashtra Association of Ayurveda Resident Doctors (MARD) have alleged that the government is trying to suppress the agitation and threatening action under section 188 on doctors, with the help of college professors.

According to MARD the MBBS and dental college students, who are working in Covid duty, have been given a raise of `10,000 in the stipend, but the students of GACH have not been provided that benefit. This is injustice and against the rule of ‘same work, same pay’.

Apart, the doctors want preparation leave as the 1st year and 3rd year doctors have exams, but they are not being relieved from Covid duties and just false promises are made to them and hence they have to resort to strike.

MARD president Dr Sumit Marathe that the agitation continued for the 5th day on Sunday and other government colleges from the state have also joined the protest. He further said that till the time the Ayush Directorate gives us written confirmation, we will not return to work. There is a chain hunger strike during the agitation, in which six students participate everyday.
