HC denies ‘X’ category security to Jamal Siddiqui

Nagpur, Feb 13

The Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court has kept the decision of State government not to provide ‘X’ category security cover to the national president of BJP Minority Cell Jamal Siddiqui and dismissed the writ petition filed by Siddiqui.

Justice duo Sunil Shukre and Avinash Gharote heard the petition. Siddiqui was awarded the X category security cover for the first time in 2017. The cover was removed in 2019 due to changes in the conditions and was given a security guard with a gun. Siddiqui had levelled an allegation that the judgement was wrong and was done due to political vendetta. The government has given X category security to people of the same cadre. In light of records provided by the State, the high court observed that in such cases, if the person is unhappy with government, he can spend from his own pocket and can keep a personal body guard.

Can’t give special protection to everyone

The high court said in the verdict that special protection cannot be given to every person who claims to have threat to his life and property. Special protection cannot be given under any right. The process has been fixed for this. The state government follows that procedure and decides on whom to give protection. The person seeking security should not decide on his own.
