HC turns down plea to release MCOCA against Salam gang

Nagpur: Jan 6

The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court quashed a controversial order acquitting six convicts, including Salam Khan Karim Khan, the head of the Akola-based Salam gang. Justices Z A Haq and Amit Borkar delivered the verdict.

Other accused include Sheikh Mehmood Sheikh Mehboob, Nasir Khan alias Baba Dhabekar, Naushad Khan Gaffar Khan, Ayub Khan alias Lala Yunus Khan and Rahim Khan Shakur Khan.

The controversial order was issued on May 8, 2015 by the MCOCA Special Sessions court in Amravati. The state government had filed an appeal in the high court against it which was granted.

All the notorious criminals extort money from traders, businessmen, etc. and harass those who refuse to pay. Police have registered 34 cases against the gang in 10 years. After being acquitted by the Sessions Court, they started committing crimes again.

Adv Tehseen Mirza represented the government in the High Court.
