Injured tiger may not return to jungle soon

Nagpur, April 23

The tiger rescued from Deolapar’s Chhavari beat may not be sent to jungle soon, as the tiger is undergoing treatment at Gorewada Wildlife Rescue Centre.

According to the sources, the X-ray report revealed a fracture in the front limb of the tiger and it has been broken in to 4-5 pieces. Even after the operation of his limb, chances are very less that he could hunt by himself. Due to this, there is also apprehension about his rewilding into forest. On Saturday April 17, passers by saw a tiger limping in the jungle, post which it was rescued and brought to Gorewada Wildlife Rescue Center for treatment. Here, along with an X-ray of the tiger’s injured leg, blood samples were also sent to the laboratory for examination.

Treatment underway

Regional manager of Gorewada project Pramod Panchabhai said that the condition of the tiger is not good at the moment but his food intake is good. The tiger is being administered pain killers and antibiotics under the supervision of Dr Dhoot and Dr Sujit, due to swelling in his leg. The tiger many be operated upon after consultation of doctors after observing his condition for few days.
