Just 1,257 patients admitted at NMC hospitals in a year

Nagpur, May 12

Crona infection started in Nagpur last year and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) had made many tall claims about their medical infrastructure and ramping up the facilities in wake of Covid, but in reality, patients

are just not going to NMC Covid Care Centers and hospitals.

Between March 2020 and March 2021, more than 4.5 lakh citizens were infected with corona and thousands were admitted to various hospitals. However, in a period of 13 months, only 1,257 patients were admitted in the NMC hospitals. An Right to Information Act (RTI) has revealed the information.

Abhay Kolarkar, an RTI activist from city had approached NMC under the RTI Act. From March 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021 he raised questions like how many corona patients came in the OPD of NMC hospitals, how many were admitted, how many children died etc.

According to the official information received, during this period, 3,21,732 citizens in the city were affected by corona and 2,90,602 patients were cured. 3,275 men and 1,555 women died during this period.

However, NMC does not have any information on whether the children died or not. Surprisingly, the NMC does not even know how many corona patients came to OPD in NMC hospitals.

Funding of `9.75 crore only under SDRF

Under the SDRF of Government of Maharashtra, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) received only `9.78 crores in a period of 13 months and entire fund has been exhausted. The question arises as to why Nagpur, the state capital city, was given so little in 13 months when there was a shortage of many medical facilities.
