Lilaram, Nikita emerge winners in cross country

Nagpur, Jan 27

Lilaram Bawne of Jai Athletics Club and Nikita Raut of Track Star emerged winners in 10 km category in District Cross Country organised by Nagur District Athletics Association at Divisional Sports Complex, Mankapur here on Wednesday.

In the men's 10 km section, Lilaram Bawne clocked 33.41.48 seconds to achieve first place. He surpassed his colleague Ajit Bhende (34.55.22 sec) for second place. Track Star athlete Sourabh Tiwari achieved third place.

In the women section, there was a tough contest between international athlete Nikita Raut and Prachi Godbole. By just one second difference, Nikita won the race. She clocked 36.17.80 seconds whereas Prajakta achieved the distance in 36.18.09 seconds. Prachi Godbole, the cousin of Prajakta, achieved third place with a timing 39.14.95 seconds.

The event was organised by NDAA in association with Dream Planner in 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18,20, open men and women categories. The district team will be selected for the state cross country to be held at Pune.

Earlier corporator Nishant Gandhi inaugurated the event in the presence of principal of HBT College Dr Ashok Kapta, social worker Pramod Kalbande, Sushannt Pawar, Vishakha Pawar, Vijay Jathe, Suhas Khare, Dr Kumud Charmode, Dr Shriram Aglawe, former athlete Vidya Deodhare and others.

Vice-president of NDAA and corporator Nagesh Sahare graced the prize distribution function. Social worker Vijay Hatwar, Dadoji Konddeo awardee Bhau Kane, NDAA president Gurudeo Nagrale, chairman Umesh Naidu and Dr Vivekanand Singh were also present. NDAA secretary Dr Sharad Suryavannshi made introductory remarks. Ramchandra Wani proposed a vote of thanks while Archana Kottewar conucted the proceedings.
