NMC chief demands report on discrepancies in Covid death data

Nagpur, April 29

There has been a surge in the cases of death due to Covid. The number of deaths figure are released by NMC administration everyday. But the cremations which are taking place are three times more than the figures of actual cremation on the crematorium grounds. Lokmat Times had published the news report and brought out the truth.

Taking cognizance of the report, the NMC commissioner has given instructions to the concerned department to investigate and submit a report.

There were 89 deaths in the district on Monday. Of these, 54 are from the city, 25 from the rural and 10 are from outside the district. But a total of 392 dead bodies were cremated at 14 crematorium grounds of the city on Monday. Of these, 288 were Covid infected, while 104 were non-Covid deaths.

The team of Lokmat Times went to the crematorium grounds to check the reality. It is suspected that such discrepancies are happening daily.

The NMC commissioner Radhakrishnan B has issued orders to additional commissioner Sanjay Nipane to conduct inquiry and submit the report. It is being claimed at the administration level that patients from other districts are also treated in Nagpur city. Due to this, there may be a difference in the figures, but in the figures which are declared daily, the figures of the dead outside the district are given separately

Probe ordered: NMC commissioner

NMC commissioner Radhakrishnan B said that in Nagpur hospitals, patients from other districts come in large numbers for treatment. Meanwhile, due to the death, they are not recorded. For this reason, there may be a difference in the registered figures of funeral and death on crematorium grounds. Once the report comes, we will come to know the truth.

Some funeral takes

place next day: Mayor

Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari said that the last rites of all the dead could not take place on the same day. Some are done on the next day. In such a situation, one can see the difference between the death from Covid and the figures of the last rites at the crematorium grounds.

Data discrepancy

Standing Committee chairman Prakash Bhoyar said that the difference between the death of Covid and the funeral data on the crematorium ground is clearly visible. In this case, the matter will be clarified by seeking information from the concerned department. The truth should come forward will ask for report.
