Outdoor sports: Evening session to be restored from Monday

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) thru its notification has amended the timings of outdoor sports from Monday. However, no decision has been taken yet on indoor halls.

It may be mentioned here that following the Delta Plus Variant the state government imposed some curbs. As far as sports are concerned, the outdoor sporting activities in the evening session (from 6 p.m.to 9 p.m.) was prohibited. Earlier the outdoor sports were allowed in two sessions i.e. from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The sports organisers players and coaches expressed surprise over state government as well as civic bodies move to stop evening outdoor activities. Finally, the government authorities have amended their earlier order. However, even after lot of protest the government authorities have not taken any decision on indoor halls.

Few days back some badminton coaches met guardian minister Dr Nitin Raut and requested him to asked the authorities to re-open Mankapur Divisional Sports Complex since it is directly controlled by the government. Dr Raut forwarded the memorandum to the municipal commissioner. The coaches, as well as players, were optimistic that some positive decision would be taken regarding indoor halls but to their disappointment, no decision has been taken.

Meanwhile, the swimming pools will remain closed and the gyms are allowed to function till 4 p.m. with 50 per cent capacity.
