Pre-monsoon showers wash away NMC’s tall claims

The first pre-monsoon rains in the city has washed away the tall claims of NMC and MSEDCL. The city experience rains for half an hour in almost all parts of the city on Tuesday afternoon.

The pre-monsoon showers caused waterlogging at many places in the city, and trees also fell on roads in various parts of south-west Nagpur. It also disrupted the power supply. The monsoon is yet to arrive, but Tuesday’s rain had put forth the reality of NMC’s tall claims.

The sky was covered with thick clouds through out the day. It started raining suddenly around 2 pm. At the same time, wind was blowing hard and most of the citizens were caught off-guard. Due to the high wind speed, the tin shades of in some houses were blown away and water got accumulated at many places. In some parts of the city, tree branches fell and in others, trees fell.

Huge tree fell in Mate Square, near IT Park complex, Bajaj Nagar, Deekshabhoomi Road, Swavalambi Nagar, Deendayal Nagar, Subhash Nagar, Ambazari, Ramnagar, Amravati road. The power supply was also disrupted due to falling trees.

Big traffic jam

Trees fell in several places in south-west Nagpur, causing a traffic jam. The road from Padole Square to Swavalambi Nagar was completely closed. In Mate Square, only one side road was operational as huge tree fell.

NMC’s claims washed away

The pre-monsoon showers have blown up the lid on works done by NMC and its tall claims to be prepared for monsoons.

Currently NMC is carrying out pre-monsoon works in the entire city. This includes cleaning of drains and drainage, removing sludge from nullahs carrying rain water, removal of garbage, repair of roads, sidewalks etc. However, considering the manner in which water has accumulated in some places, questions are being raised on the readiness of the corporation. The main roads at Ramdaspeth, Kachipura Road, Sitabuldi had turned into water bodies.
