Nagpur, Feb 11

The education department has lashed out at six CBSE schools for charging crores of rupees extra as fees from parents. The schools have gone to court, but Minister of State for School Education Bacchu Kadu said, “For how long the schools will go to court, they will have to refund the money, which has been charged extra by the schools. Kadu made this remark during a press conference in the city on Thursday.

He further said that if the schools fail to refund the extra fees, their chairperson or principal can be arrested. For the first time, any such action has been initiated against CBSE schools, which has caused quite a stir.

We have recently taken action on five schools. Once this action is completed, we will also take action against the remaining 15 to 20 schools. He said that when actions are taken against schools, they go to court and get a stay order and we are closely observing the pattern.

Kadu clarified that it will be recovered from the schools which charge extra fees from poor parents. A meeting of education department officials was held on Thursday to discuss the final course of action. “If the additional charges are not refunded, we will confiscate the school property and seal the bank account,” Kadu said.

Will create an action plan

An action plan will be prepared as to what action the education department will take in case of non-recovery from the schools. A special lawyer will also be appointed for this. Apart from this, it will check the details of the fees charged by the schools on a yearly basis and collect information about the fee hikes. We will be making an water-tight case against all of them.

Action will be taken against 12 more schools

Around 12 more schools charging extra fees have been questioned and it has been revealed that they are not sharing the information with the department. So now the deputy director himself is going to these schools to get the information. The schools which are not providing information, action will be taken against those schools, informed the education officials.
