Resident doctors end strike

Nagpur, June 4

The resident doctors of Mayo had called-off the protest, which they had held under the banner of MARD to press the demand for admitting non-Covid patients to the surgical complex.

Mayo Dean Dr Ajay Keoliya admitted the 25 patients from surgical complex to Ward No. 5 and 6. Mayo has been treating only Covid patients for last one and half years. The resident doctors have alleged that due to the treatment of Covid patients only, they are not able to undertake specialist cases, which is important for their career. Looking at the attitude of Mayo management, the resident doctors had gone on group leave since June 1. Around 230 doctors participated in the agitation. Director of Medical Education Department Dr Tatyarao Lahane spoke to the resident doctors to end the strike. The resident doctors had asked for action rather than promise.

'Non-Covid patients to be treated'

Now there are no Covid patients in surgical complex and hence all other patients can be treated in the hospital. Now ENT, Orthopedic, and surgery can be performed, said Dr Rajat Agrawal, president, MARD, Mayo.
