Stage set for national cricket tournament for Divyangs

The state is set for Koshish Premier League Twenty20 National Cricket tournament for Divyangs that will be held in the city from February 18 to 28.

While addressing media persons Ravi Chouhan, secretary of the Physically Challenged Cricket Association of India, on Wednesday said the eleven-day tourney will be held simultaneously at the Dr Ambedkar College ground, Deekshabhoomi and Dhanwate National College’s Vasant Nagar ground from Thursday.

Twelve teams including hosts Vidarbha and Maharashtra will vie for the top honours in the competition, which will be played on league-cum-knock-out basis. The participating teams have been equally divided into four groups. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the knock-outs.

Former international cricketer and VCA vice-president Prashant Vaidya will inaugurate the tournament at the Ambedkar College ground at 9 am on Thursday. Koshish Foundation president Salil Deshmukh, Ravi Chouhan, Maharashtra Cricket Association for Disabled president Uttam Mishra, Lions Club of Nagpur Central president Nandkishor Kabra will be the guests of honour on the occasion.

The total prize money of the tourney will be Rs 1.80 lakh. The champion team will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, while the runners-up will be richer by Rs 50,000.

The league matches will be played from February 18 to 23. The quarterfinals will be held on February 24 and 25, while the semifinals will be played on February 26 and 27. The mega final will be held on February 28 at the Vasant Nagar ground. The prize distribution ceremony will be held at 12 noon soon after the final.

Lions Club of Nagpur Central member Sudhir Baheti, Koshish Foundation’s Avishkar Deshmukh, Avesh Zunzunwala, Sagar Batewar, Vikrant Deshmukh, Sanjay Bhoskar and Indian disabled cricket team player Gurudas Raut were also present at the press conference.
