Tennis players enlightened on proper diet

Nagpur, Feb 11

Eminent Lifestyle Medicine Physician and sports personality Dr Roma Sarnaik conducted an interactive session with almost 25 young players in the age group 7 to 14 years at Ram Nagar centre.

In her own charismatic manner, Dr Roma spoke to the players and emphasized on importance of good diet, good sleep, reduced screen time specially at night, about warming up the body before the game and stretching exercises to tone the muscles. Dr Roma has been a champion swimmer, and knew very well the value of proper lifestyle. It was something that the players needed to know, and listened to with rapt attention. Later when she took to questions and answers, almost every player spoke and interacted with her. For diet, Dr Roma impressed the audience the importance of fruits, proteins, fats and carbohydrates in a wholesome meal that the body should get. She also said that eggs and bananas are important sources of energy for players. She said it is not wrong to eat junk food like pizzas and burgers, but to limit it to once in a while only. Players showed a lot of enthusiasm in interacting with her.

Sejal Bhutada was felicitated on the occasion by NDHTA Executive Committee members Dr Darshan Dakshindas and Vikram Naidu, and was presented a tennis racquet as a gesture of appreciation for her hard work in improving her game and for winning tournaments. Sejal is one of the brightest talents from the city, and trains at NDHTA courts under the watch of Coach Vishal Landge and Navin More.

Earlier, Dr Darshan Dakshindas presented a cheque of Rs 51,000 to NDHTA as his contribution to bring more tournaments to the city, and to provide motivation and encouragement to the young and budding champions. Vijay Naidu, treasurer of NDHTA conducted the programme. Coaches Suraj, Navin, Vishal, Sandeep and Jaikumar worked hard for the success of the event.
