Corona infections is on the rise and there is a shortage of bed. On Tuesday, about 50 to 60 corona patients were waiting for bed at GMCH Therefore, the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court allowed them to use 90 beds situated in GMCH basement. These beds are equipped with oxygen facility. The court took suo moto cognizance of the current critical situation and conducted a hearing before Justices Sunil Shukre and Avinash Gharote late last night.
A public interest litigation is pending in the court regarding corona. Last year the basement was filled with rain water, due to which it was not safe. As a result, the court had on September 29, 2020, banned the use of 90 corona beds in the basement for patients.
At present there are no beds available in GMCH for corona patients. Beds in the basement could not be used due to the court's order. Dr Kanchan Wankhede of GMCH, filed an application in the court seeking amendment in the relevant restraining order.
Late last night, Justices Sunil Shukre and Avinash Gharote heard the case. Chief Public Prosecutor Ketki Joshi also submitted photographs in this regard to the court, saying that the bed in the basement are ready to be used for corona patients. The court allowed the use of beds for corona patients in the basement in view of the current critical situation.Open in app
