It is a good sign that the sporting activities are resuming gradually after around ten months against the backdrop of Covid pandemic. Shriram Krida Mandal, Musewadi, Ramtek is organising Vidarbha-level Kho-Kho Tournament from February 18 to 21 at the Matoshri Kashidevi College ground, Musewadi. The tourney will be held under the auspices of Vidarbha Kho-Kho Association.

Addressing media persons on Thursday at SJAN office president of krida mandal Kiran Ghugguskar said the four-day tourney will be held under the guidance of Ramtek MLA Adv Ashish Jaiswal. Nagpur’s Nav Maharashtra Krida Mandal will provide the special support. As many as 16 teams in the men’s section and eight women’s teams will vie for the top honours. Matches will be held at three courts. The tourney will be conducted on league cum knockout basis.Total prize money for the tournament will be Rs 1 lakh. The inauguration will be held at 4 pm on February 18. On February 21, semifinals will be played in the morning hours, while finals will take place in the evening session. The prize distribution function will be held soon after the finals. Winners and runners-up will get cash prizes besides attractive trophies. The best performers will be rewarded with individual trophies. Organizers will make lodging and boarding arrangements of the players, umpires and officials. In the last tournament held in 2018, Tuljai Krida Mandal, Khallar triumphed in the men’s section, while Vidarbha Krida Mandal, Katol emerged champions in the women’s category. Secretary of mandal Yogesh Ghugguskar, Prashant Jagtap of Nav Maharashtra Krida Mandal, secretary of Vidarbha Kho Kho Association Sudhir Nimbalkar and Atul Kadu were present at the press conference.

Covid test report mandatory

The organisers have made RT PCR test report mandatory for each participating player with a view to conduct the tournament smoothly. " We have taken lot of precautions and will follow all the guidelines issued by the government. Each player will have to submit his Covid negative report and then only he can be able participate. Apart from it the infrared thermometer , sanitizes, oxy meter will also remain available. We have already sought the permission from the tesildar to conduct the tournament”, said Kiran Ghugguskar.
