Water supply to Mhada colonies to be snapped

The responsibility of supplying water to people in city lies with Nagpur Municipal Corporation. These include residents of Mhada colonies. But water bills of most of the colonies have not been paid by Mhada from last 15 to 20 years. The NMC and OCW have issued notice of snapping water supply if pending `83 lakh is not paid. There is possibility of water supply to thousands of residents of Mhada colonies.

The residents of Mhada colonies are supplied water in bulk quantity. There are no independent water connections. Mhada collects lease rent and water tax from occupants. The responsibility of paying water bill is of Mhada. But from last several years, the Mhada has not paid water tax from last several years. But now Mhada has turned away from paying as pendency has increased.

Many occupants have deposited water tax to Mhada. Old pending bill is recovered from occupants while doing their registry. Such number of occupants is more. Large number of occupants will be in trouble in water supply is snapped.

Injustice to regular payers

Hundreds of occupants in Mhada colony pay lease rent and water tax regularly. Such will be affected if water supply to Mhada colonies is stopped. On other hand, some occupants have given their dwellings on rent.

Demand of individual connection

The occupants of Mhada colonies who pay water tax regularly have demanded individual water connections. There is need for municipal administration to consider this demand positively.

Eighteen colonies of Mhada have not paid water bill of more than `83 lakh. The water supply department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation has issued notice to pay pending bill. The occupants need to pay water bill as water is being supplied. A solution will be found out soon so that injustice is not done to those who pay water tax regularly while snapping water supply.
