The Allahabad High Court in a landmark judgement has said that that adult boys and girls can be with anyone of their choice. No one has the right to interfere in their lives. Although the Constitution gives everyone the right to adopt the religion of their choice, conversion is only for marriage. According to the Special Marriage Act, people of opposite faiths can live a married and married life without changing their religion. This law applies to all religions. Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average person. The court has allowed anti-religion petitioners to stay anywhere they want. The order was passed by Justice JJ Munir on the plea of Pooja alias Zoya and Shahvez of Saharpur.

For the unversed, Pooja  ran away from home and married Shahvez. The family found out and placed them under house arrest, on the basis of which this application was made. The court ordered the girl to appear. SP instructed Saharanpur to introduce the girl if the father did not make it. The girl who appeared in court said she wanted to stay with her husband. The court ordered him to be released on his own. Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a warning against ‘love jihad’ and said the government is working to bring a strict law to curb incidents of ‘love jihad’. Last year, the Uttar Pradesh State Law Commission submitted a report to Adityanath, suggesting “a new law to check forcible religious conversions.” Kanpur Police had also set up a special investigation team to look into ‘love jihad’ cases.
