The central government has alleged that the opposition is trying to 'mislead' the people about the intention behind the  revised citizenship law which has triggered violent protests in the country. Home Minister Amit Shah has accused the protesters of misleading the country. He was speaking at a public meeting in Jharkhand Pakud.

Speaking on the occasion, Amit Shah said that the amended citizenship law does not affect any minority community in the country. There is no such provision in the law. I would like to tell the Congress that this is part of the agreement between Nehru and Liaquat. It has not been implemented for the last 3 years because Congress wanted to do religion politics. He said that our government implemented this and gave citizenship to millions, billions of people.

Also, Union Home Ministry sources said that the Citizenship Improvement Act has nothing to do with sending any foreigner out. The process of repatriating foreigners is already in place. It is said that this law does not apply to any Indian.
