Budget 2021: Economic packages of 2020 were as good as mini budgets, says PM Modi

Ahead of the beginning of the Budget Session of Parliament on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the day marks the beginning of the Parliament session of a new decade that will see a bright future for India. PM Modi said the economic packages of 2020 were as good as mini budgets.

This is the Budget Session. For the first time in India's history, in a way, the Finance Minister had to present 4-5 mini budgets in 2020 in the form of different packages. So this Budget will be seen as a part of those 4-5 mini budgets, I believe this, said  PM Modi at the Parliament.

The Budget Session of Parliament which commences today will be held in two parts this year due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Following tradition, the President will address the joint sitting of Parliament at the Central Hall. The speech highlights the government's plan and policy vision for the next financial year.

The first part of the Budget Session is scheduled to conclude on February 15 while the second part will commence on March 8 and is expected to end on April 8.

Given the Covid-19 outbreak, Parliament will sit in two shifts. The morning session is dedicated to the Rajya Sabha while the Lok Sabha will sit in the evening.

The Rajya Sabha will sit from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the Lok Sabha will sit from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget at 11 a.m. on February 1.
