Prime Minister Modi made the big announcement on Tuesday night and said that this is the only way India can fight coronavirus. The total number of positive cases in India has reached 562 with 11 confirmed deaths.

In a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner, Bagga said, "In the light of ongoing ncovid2019(corona) infection, to protect(prevent) further spread of the disease, I request to please suspend the breath analyser tests for drunk drivers." 5 persons with travel history to coronavirus-hit nations kept in isolation in Srinagar hospital

Health authorities in Kashmir have kept five persons with a recent history of travelling to coronavirus-affected countries in the isolation ward of the SKIMS hospital here after they showed symptoms of the disease, officials said on Thursday.

“We have kept the five persons in the isolation ward at the SKIMS hospital in Soura,” they said.

The officials added that samples of the suspects were collected and sent for testing to the National Institute of Virology in Pune.

Of the five, one had travelled to Thailand while two had been to Iran, they said, adding that the remaining two had a recent travel history to the epicentre of COVID-19 in China’s Wuhan.

Coronavirus: Home Secy Bhalla reviews COVID-19 screening of people entering India

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla reviewed the status of screening of people coming to India from neighboring countries, in view of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) threat. The Home Secretary held a video conference with Chief Secretaries, Additional Chief Secretaryies and DGP and Additional DGP of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Punjab, besides the Secretary, Border Management, and DsG of BSF and SSB.

The states revealed that regular screening is being done by doctors at various transit points and the community in border areas has been sensitized in respect of precautions to be taken to avoid being infected by the virus through gram sabhas.

Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla urged all the officials to ensure that round-the-clock deployment of doctors, with requisite testing kits and other medical supplies, be done so that screening is done at full capacity.

Indian archery team withdraws from Asia Cup in Bangkok as coronavirus fears grow

The Archery Association of India (AAI) Thursday withdrew its team from the upcoming Asia Cup world ranking tournament in Bangkok owing to the coronavirus threat there.

The season-opening stage 1 tournament is scheduled to be held in Thailand’s capital from March 8 to 15.

This would have been India’s first international competition since their return from a five-month suspension.

“After reviewing the current alarming situation on account of coronavirus and taking into consideration the travel advisories issued by SAI and IOC, Archery Association of India is worried about the health of our team and cannot take any risk under the circumstances,” AAI assistant secretary Gunjan Abrol wrote to World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen.

India said on Thursday it had postponed a planned summit with the European Union due to the coronavirus outbreak.

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi was due to travel to Brussels later this month for meetings with EU leaders.

Four of five people who have tested positive for coronavirus will get better on their own and there is no need for Indians to panic about the viral outbreak yet, says a leading Indian researcher and scientist.
Testing for the disease should also be done only when recommended, said Gagandeep Kang as the number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 30, including 16 Italian tourists as well as three patients in Kerala who have recovered.
"Please let public health authorities know about exposure to known infected persons or travel to areas where infections are known to be prevalent," the Christian Medical College professor, who last year became the first Indian woman to be elected fellow of the Royal Society in London, told PTI in an interview.
Noting that all treatments are not curative but only supportive at the moment, she said four of five people will get better on their own and may need nothing more than drugs like paracetamol for fever and cough.

The Uttar Pradesh government gave relief to examiners evaluating the UP board class X and XII answer copies. The secondary education department late on Tuesday night decided to call off the evaluation until April 2. Of the 2,921 samples sent for testing, 2,342 turned out to be negative.

Air India suspends contract of around 200 employees

Air India on Thursday temporarily suspended the contracts of around 200 employees including pilots, who were re-employed after retirement as all domestic and international commercial passenger flights have been suspended in the country till April 14. Last night, the World Bank approved $1-billion emergency financing for India to tackle the coronavirus outbreak, which has claimed 53 lives and infected over 2,000 people in the country. J&K govt to convert railway coaches into isolation wards

The Jammu and Kashmir administration is planning to turn some railway coaches into isolation wards for coronavirus patients, a senior government official said on Saturday. Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education Department, Atal Dulloo chaired a meeting between the Railways department and the Health and Medical Education Department in which various modalities were discussed to convert the railway coaches into isolation wards, an official statement said. During the meeting, Dullo asked the railway authorities to provide at least 100 isolation beds in coaches in Jammu to augment the existing isolation facilities for Covid-19 cases.
