India has been put under complete lockdown for 21 days starting today. All public transport have been banned while any kind of non-essential movement outside the house has also been prohibited. Prime Minister Modi made the big announcement on Tuesday night and said that this is the only way India can fight coronavirus. The total number of positive cases in India has reached 562 with 11 confirmed deaths.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration is planning to turn some railway coaches into isolation wards for coronavirus patients, a senior government official said on Saturday. Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education Department, Atal Dulloo chaired a meeting between the Railways department and the Health and Medical Education Department in which various modalities were discussed to convert the railway coaches into isolation wards, an official statement said. During the meeting, Dullo asked the railway authorities to provide at least 100 isolation beds in coaches in Jammu to augment the existing isolation facilities for Covid-19 cases.

Kerala CM announces Rs 500 crore for health sector to fight Covid-19

To tide over the economic crisis faced by Kerala due to Covid-19 situation, the government declared a stimulus package worth Rs 20,000 crore, of which Rs 500 crore would be exclusively set aside for the health sector. Meanwhile, one more positive case was reported from Kasaragod on Thursday, taking the total number of infected persons to 25. This patient had returned from Dubai recently and was kept in isolation. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said 31,173 persons were kept under observation, of which 237 are in designated isolation wards. Of the 2,921 samples sent for testing, 2,342 turned out to be negative.

The Archery Association of India (AAI) Thursday withdrew its team from the upcoming Asia Cup world ranking tournament in Bangkok owing to the coronavirus threat there.

Coronavirus: Home Secy Bhalla reviews COVID-19 screening of people entering India

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla reviewed the status of screening of people coming to India from neighboring countries, in view of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) threat. Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla urged all the officials to ensure that round-the-clock deployment of doctors, with requisite testing kits and other medical supplies, be done so that screening is done at full capacity.

5 persons with travel history to coronavirus-hit nations kept in isolation in Srinagar hospital

Health authorities in Kashmir have kept five persons with a recent history of travelling to coronavirus-affected countries in the isolation ward of the SKIMS hospital here after they showed symptoms of the disease, officials said on Thursday.

“We have kept the five persons in the isolation ward at the SKIMS hospital in Soura,” they said.

The officials added that samples of the suspects were collected and sent for testing to the National Institute of Virology in Pune.

Of the five, one had travelled to Thailand while two had been to Iran, they said, adding that the remaining two had a recent travel history to the epicentre of COVID-19 in China’s Wuhan.
