COVID-19: IPS Arun Bothra arranges oxygen cylinders for 78 patients in Delhi

The number of corona patients in the country has been increasing rapidly over the last few days. As the second wave of the coronavirus intensifies, India yet again reported the highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases with over 3,46,786 fresh infections and 2,624 deaths on Saturday. The alarming spread of COVID-19 has led to shortage of oxygen cylinders in the hospitals, Remdesivir medicine, and beds in hospital. Many people are in need of medical supplies in case of an emergency.

The national capital Delhi is facing acute shortage of medical oxygen. Amid the acute shortage of medical oxygen, many hopital here are suspending the admission of new patients.The increase in demand has also created a shortage of oxygen in hospitals across the country. As a result, the hospital administration is demanding oxygen wherever possible. Recently, a similar situation was witnessed at Rathi Hospital in Delhi. These hospitals had only one hour of oxygen left.

In such a situation, an IPS officer took the responsibility of supplying oxygen to the hospital. The name of this IPS officer is Arun Bothra.

After all efforts, the hospital administration finally tweeted to Arvind Kejriwal, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and the Prime Minister, saying that our hospital was not getting oxygen supply. This is hampering the treatment of 78 patients admitted. We have been calling since morning, however, our call to any helpline number is not answered. We're calling, but they're disconnecting our phone. Please share this post as much as possible.'

Following the hospital administration's tweet, Arun Bothra, a senior IPS officer stationed in Odisha, came forward for help. Quoting the hospital's tweet, he wrote, "Serious crisis of oxygen at @HospitalRathi once again. At 2 AM they have supply for just one hour. Life of 68 patients at stake. Is there anyone who can help them at this hour? Pl amplify and do whatever you can."

After Arun Bothra's tweet, many people came forward for help. After his tweet, the matter was first taken up by Sanjeev Gupta, a senior IAS officer and secretary in the home ministry. Gupta then alerted the Home Ministry's control room. Discussions were held with the SHOs of Mundka and Runhole in this regard. After the efforts of both the officers, 24 Type-D oxygen cylinders and an oxygen truck of 14 tons were arranged for the hospital. 

Bothra after the arrangements were made tweeted,"Friends,We have got some leads. Arrangements are being made to refill empty cylinders. Hopeful that it will be resolved soon. Will update again."
